Tramadol Side effects

I have been on Tramadol 50mgs since November, I only take it once (twice on a bad day) and since I started taking it I have had really bad constipation. Has anyone else had this problem?

I decided to come off of this dreadful medication, Im down to like a 1/2 a pill a day, what is the next step ? None, or cut the 1/2 a pill in 1/2 again?

Thanks

Re: Tramadol Side effects

Hi Hope,

Bless you child for only "needing" 1 or just a 1/2 pill a day. I am taking 6 to 8, 50 mg tabs every day, and just barely denting the pain I have yet to learn to live with. That being said, I am not having problems with constipation, but I also consume as many natural fiber filled foods as I can. I would suggest that you eat plenty of salads and fresh vegies. Or if that is difficult, try some of those lovely fiber pills or drink additives available now a days. Best of luck, you lucky dear you!

Im also on Vicodin ES but that has never constipated me, this all started right after I began taking the Tramadol. Maybe the two are making creating this constipation problem.

I started taking stool softners, activia and miralex and have started drinking Metamucil. Ive been going everday now BUT now my stool is thinner and softer. Im thinking that is from all the softening agent I have taken. I dont want to go back to the constipation so I am going to just take the metamucil and activia and hope my stools go back to normal.

Re: Tramadol Side effects

Pain meds are notorius for causing constipation. Think of it as slowing everything down. I make smoothies of Bananas and other fresh fruits and I also eat fruit everyday, otherwise I would have problems with the days I have to take Tramadol.
