Vit D

Hello All!

Saw the Rhumy today...well my Vit D decided to nose dive again....

I did get it up to like 72 afew months back using Vit D script from my Rhumy..once I was off of it it did drop to like 40 now its down to 22...sooooo he put me back on the script...50,000 IU 1x a week.

Why in the world can't my body hold this Vit D?? Anyone else with this issue?

Re: Vit D

I wonder why it was discontinued. It makes sense to me that if you are deficient in Vit D then there must be a cause. I would research Vitamin D absorption and see if you might find the underlying cause. I know my Vit D levels were low some 3 years ago and I have been on it continuously since that time. But I understand my defiency is caused by Lactose intolerance and the fact that those with Lupus (which I also have) need to stay out of the sun and avoid indoor UV rays as well. There may be some underlying reason that your body depletes your natural ability to use natural Vit D from diet or absorption through the sun. I would check it out. I would think the supplement is harmless as we all know that Vit D in sunshine and diet is good for you.

Re: Vit D

Thanks for responding.

Sorry I didnt respond back before, have not been feeling well. Realy flaring lately!

I agree. There must be some reason why my body can't seem to hold on to Vit D. What could be the cause..I have no idea.

I guess he must of stopped the prescription treatment because we got it up to like 72. I never thought it would nose dive again. He may not of either. But at least I am back on it.

Hope you are feeling well!!!

Re: Vit D

I have not been diagnosed with FM yet, but am on my way because all test ran have been negative for everything. You may ask to be referred to a endorcrinologist. If you do not know, they are specialist on your immune system and "how your body is supposed to work." I am being referred to one because my vit d level is a 23 (normal level is between 30 and 100) and my testosterone level is a 52 (normal level is between 200 and 900). I was told by my doctor that my testosterone levels were pretty much non-existent. I've been placed on Androgel, but haven't really seen any major difference.

LUCKILY, the non-existent testosterone level has not affected my ability to get and maintain an erection, but it has SIGNIFICANTLY reduced my libido and my ability to orgasim. My doctor wanted me to try Livitra (like Viagra), but I didn't because I don't have problems getting / maintaining. So, I'm on the lose lose side of it .. Pain of engaging, typically no relief during engaging, and the lingering pain after engaging.

Hopefully (shot in the dark) after seeing the endocrinologist they will be able to explain why I've been in chronic pain for 3-4 years. More than likely like all other tests they'll be fine and I'll be back to square one.

Hope everyone who reads this gets / finds relief some how or some time.

God Bless

Re: Vit D

this seems to have been written a long time ago but I will try.
I just was diagnosed with low vit D. Seems like this is the "thing" now. I have have several injuries and over the last 30 years have had pain. I found out finally that my vit D is very low. He said it was 34 when it should be 74 or close to that (I am in Australia). He also told me I would have to take it all my life.
I was prescribed 3thousand IU at night for 3 months and then 2 thousand for the rest of my life. He said it was due to me being insulin resistant. The fat produced from my insulin resistance is destroying my Vit D. He told me I should also start to lose weight I am into my third week and I have had 2 weeks of aching pain. I wonder if I am going to get worse before I get better. Please tell me anyone if this is true? I am hurting so much I thought I was going to be bedridden. I am taking so much pain medication atm. So please let me know how you went? did you get relief?

Re: Vit D

Hi thanks for your reply- makes me feel less alone. I have had a bad car accident and after I had my first 2 fusions I fell at work, uneven footpath- and ripped my fusions. I have had 2 more fusions and broken almost every limb. Long story, but I thought I was just having to live with it-the pain and all.
Almost 2 years now I had my last fusion and my new neurosurgeon found they had ignored pinched nerves at C6/7 all this time. I had some relief immediatly after the op but as soon as the anestetic wore off I got the pain again. I was hoping that I will get relief sometime. Now my endocrinologist said I needed vit D. I have had a bad flare- a really bad flare through christmas. -this is a week after I started the vit D. I feel so ill at the moment. aching pain like the flu. did you have that? Did you think think that you got worse before you got any better? I wonder if you were any better after taking vit D?
hope you feel better too, Kathy
