Provigil is a drug used to treat narcolepsy (sleeping sickness}. Some doctors have been giving it to Fibro patients and it worked great for me for my Fibro tirednes and Fibro lack of concentration. It acts like a stimulant without the side effects of stimulants. The problem is, Provigil is so expensive, 9 dollars a pill. Most insuance companies will not cover it. Well good news. The patent on Provigil is ending and soon their will be generic Provigil. The company that makes it has come out with a replacement called Nuvigil. When I called the company to ask them what the difference is between the two, they couldn't give me an answer. Like many drug companies, they changed the formula a little and claim it is a new med, thus being able to charge 9 bucks a pill again.
So for those Fibro suffers who could not afford Provigil, there will be a generic version out very soon.

Vince, thanks for the info. I have been talking to my daughter in law about this. She has a friend who does shift work at a hospital and sometimes uses sleep meds, and in reverse provigil to stay awake. Of course she doesn't use both at the same time. She has discovered that the provigil is better to use instead of dealing with the sleep meds. It helps her to get through a shift and not be so tired and sleepy. My DIL tried it and said it did not make her hyper or anything which is what I thought may happen. This is something I have considered talking to my doc about, glad to know someone with fibro has tried it with success and nice to know there is a generic coming up.
That is so strange about the cost of the Nuvigil. I was given a script for it for 60 days and it was 80 dollars! caled caremark my drug company and theythat Provical was procedvil was preferred drug. weirdlHuh: THdu giveje he ( as u can see I a falling asleep while typing) so have goto . bye
