Does any of you use melatonin for sleep? I started it about 10 days ago and the sleep I am getting is better than I have had for a long time and I am dreaming. I am not taking benadryl or xanax at night, just the melatonin. I have lots more energy during the day and less pain.
I was wondering and hoping that this will last. What are your experiences with it?

I used to use melatonin every night. But unfortunately it did not keep me sleeping thru the night time muscle spasms so I added Flexeril to the night time med list. After a while I stopped using the melatonin.
When I did take it I was taking 2, after waking from spasms I took 2 more.

@WoodsWalker ..im sorry it didn't help you...before i started using melatonin id wake every 2 hrs or so and really only got 4 hrs total a nite on a good night..id also go almost 2 full weeks with only a half hr here an an hr there..since taking melatonin i fall asleep fast stay a sleep for 4 hrs then go to the bathroom, back to bed fall asleep pretty fast and sleep another 3 hrs so a total of 7 hr ..beats the 4 hrs...lol..
i did go up a dose ,,started out with one 3 mg pill but now two 3 mg = 6 mg does the trick for now every blue moon that doesn't do it, so i take a half a Advil PM and im out....about once a week ill add 3 ibuprofen at night so i sleep better and it helps with not feeling like im sleeping on a cement floor..LOL....when i do that it seems i can almost sleep mostly through the nite,,but i don't like taking all kinds of meds so try and only do it maybe once a week....

I am currently taking 3 mg and it works pretty well, however I wake after 4 hours and sometimes have trouble falling back asleep. I am thinking of upping the dosage. Should I take more before bedtime or more when I awaken? Does anyone have advice on that? I would greatly appreciate it.
yes i just looked there is a time release one...also here..Mistake #3: Melatonin is a natural supplement, so it can't do any harm.
The wrong amounts of melatonin or melatonin at the wrong time of day can cause serious health risks. Daytime melatonin has been shown to cause depression. This makes sense, especially when you consider that melatonin causes us to pull back, withdraw, become disoriented and irritable - the classic hibernation response. It's best to avoid using melatonin that could be in our system during the day.
why i posted this is cause i dont think id take it after you wake..cause then it would be in your body in the morning hrs...

Thanks monalisa for the info. I will research the extended release. What I meant was when I awaken in the middle of the night, can I take another one if I have 3-4 hours left before getting up for the day?
yes i understood that but if you did then like at what about 3am? anything past 12 midnight id think...wouldn't be good.... i think what there saying is that maybe to close to the morning time,,i don't know how long it stays in our system, you know...
