First post, and curious for your opinion on Fibro symptoms.

Hi all,

Wanted to post a few of my symptoms and what's been going on with the Dr.'s to see if I can receive some advice from fellow sufferers. Bear with me if you don't mind as I will give you a bit of background.

It all started three years ago or so, where I unintentionally lost 30 pounds, and had severe bouts of diarrhea. Was referred to a gastro. and did the gastroscopy and colonoscopy with negative results for Crohn's, cancer, etc. Noticed my b12 was low, but not alarmingly low and suggested a b12 supplement daily.Gave up with the lack of answers and just moved on.

Unfortunately, I've been going through intense bouts of fatigue (for the past 2-3 years), my legs are very sore, I experience numbness and tingling in my arms, hands, legs, and feet, and I also experience sharp, shooting, stabbing (or electric) pains that can originate anywhere in my body. I also have diarrhea, stiff/sore joints, and have difficulty sleeping. The fatigue, and the muscle tightness/soreness has been starting to affect my everyday life so I headed to the Dr.'s to try and sort this out. Did bloodwork, noticed my b12 again was low, (120) and said that he think it's fibromyalgia. Sent me for a bone scan and now I'm awaiting the results of that, although I don't believe anything of great interest will show as I had one previously 4 years ago.

Are these classic symptoms of fibromyalgia that you've experienced so far? Any advice or comments would be much appreciated.

Thanks for allowing me to share.

Yup pretty much what I deal with on a daily basis but add vertigo to all that. I take Cymbalta and Tramadol but they dont really help with the pain. Cymbalta helps more with my depression. Good luck to you and hope you get more answers.

Re: First post, and curious for your opinion on Fibro symptoms.

There are so many things that have allot of fibro symptoms... I have some issues & after 13 yrs finally getting somewhere...
Don't give up, keep pushing. If you don't like the dr, get another. You really should see a nuerologist or rhumetologist... Make sure to find one that listens & wants to help...
Have you been tested for ms? Really should have that done... Doesn't hurt to see an endocrynologists either... Hopefully it's something easily treatable...
Keep us posted!

Re: First post, and curious for your opinion on Fibro symptoms.

Fairly similar to my symptoms. The diarrhoea could be due to ibs which I would suffer from. I agree with previous post go and see a rheumy make a list of all your symptoms, it is too easy to forget them them when you are sitting in front of rheumy. If you have time go back and read some of the previous posts there is so much information there.

Best of luck

Re: First post, and curious for your opinion on Fibro symptoms.

welcome to the boards,
while you are at it have a blood test for sjogrens disease. while some of your symptoms are fibro similar so are they sjogrens similar. i have both and find the more intense joint pains are sjogrens not fibro. fibro is more a soft tissue issue, giggle. i made a funny. the fatigue can be either or both.
be persistant. be your own advocate. do more research. oh, and tell your doctor what you want, don't ask. asking leaves room for hearing "no". telling does not.
peace,
bluelakelady

Re: First post, and curious for your opinion on Fibro symptoms.

Thanks for the welcome, and all of the advice!

I have not been tested for MS, although the Doctor did say that there was a possibility for it. I'm awaiting more blood work (to check my b12 levels again) and from the last time I spoke with my Doctor he said that he would refer me to a rheumatologist once those results were back. I guess we'll see if he will or not.

I'm hoping to see a specialist soon as I am getting frustrated with my lack of knowledge of my symptoms, and the guessing of it all...onto playing the waiting game now!

Re: First post, and curious for your opinion on Fibro symptoms.

You'll need a referal to a Nuerologist to get an MRI & tested for ms. You should call the docs office & request a referral. It may take a while to get in to a Nuerologist so a goo idea to get the ball rolling now. A Nuerologist can help with fibro also...

Re: First post, and curious for your opinion on Fibro symptoms.

Bluelakelady - I looked up sjogrens disease and alot of the symptoms described sound like me. Of course having fibro, I always blame that for anything that feels wierd. Once I move to the east coast of FL I'm going to make an appt at Patrick AFB and get tested. I figure it can't hurt to check it out. Thanks!

Welcome to our little club. Not that you want to be here, but you will find support. I agree with the suggestions of getting the best rheumy you can find or neuro. They will be your best friend. Dont give up until you get someone who will believe you and help you fight through this.

Re: First post, and curious for your opinion on Fibro symptoms.

Whrn i was being diagnosed, i had a blood test to rule out lupus and an mri of my brain to rule out MS. No diarrhia. But did have shooting pains, weird electric pain which was from pinched nerves from chronic myofascial pain--muscles won't release and impact nerves. Ihad these from head to foot, not all at the same time though. These were treated mostly with trigger point injections (not tender point). I also had the fatigue and pain. I hope you get your diagnosis soon. There is a whole lot of information out there on fibro and chronic myofascial pain. It's not all true. My suggestion is to see a pain mgmt doctor that specializes in cmp and fibromyalgia. Thats what i did in 2004, and i'm doing great.

Re: First post, and curious for your opinion on Fibro symptoms.

Thanks again for all the suggestions.

I went on Friday and did some bloodwork. I noticed that my Dr. requested ANTI-CCP, CRP, and ESR. I'm assuming that he is trying to rule out arthritis, bacterial infection etc. I spoke with the medical office last week in regards to my bone scan results, but they just informed me that the Dr. had reviewed them, but left no instructions else wise so I'm pretty sure nothing of interest showed up on it.

I'm experiencing pain behind my right eye that can be dull or sharp that irritates looking out of it. It can come and go from week-week or month to month.

I'm hoping to get my bloodwork results back this week and get back into the Doctors. I think I am going to ask him to be referred to a neurologist as well as the rheumatologist to help rule things out.

Re: First post, and curious for your opinion on Fibro symptoms.

Thanks again everybody.

I've definitely been ruled out for IBS a year ago or so, but I have one more question for you guys.

My legs are particularly affected, does heat make it worse for you? After a hot shower, my legs (calves especially) feel so tight, like they are restricted and I can't move/flex them the way I want to, so I have to walk more side to side with a funny gait. It can last sometimes for an hour or much longer like last night. They also have a very, very deep ache in them.

I'm off to the Doctor's tomorrow for my second bloodwork and bone scan results, so I'm hoping there will be a referral to a specialist tomorrow.

Thanks again for all of your help and concern.

Re: First post, and curious for your opinion on Fibro symptoms.

It looks like everyone is being very helpful. I just want to second the advice to write everything down that you want to discuss with your Dr. I keep a running list to jot things down quickly - I forget things, if I don't.
Also, be sure not to just chalk up all symptoms to Fibromyalgia, especially new ones. I have been diagnosed since 2002. But, in 2010, I started feeling extra fatigue and having shortness of breath. Even walking from the bedroom to the kitchen wore me out, and I was having extra sweating. Now, all of these are Fibromyalgia symptoms, and I thought I had maybe caught a virus, also. (Immunity problems are prevalent, too, with Fibromyalgia.). I let it go while i just tried to get extra rest. Ended up it was my heart acting up, and I was diagnosed with A-Fib. So, add a cardiologist to my team!
Be sure to discuss all with your Dr. If you don't tell her/him, they can't know exactly what to test you for and/or how to treat you.
I am, also, new to this board. There are so many good people here, and they make you feel right at home. Sending good thoughts for your appointment later today.
