Fibro, meet work.

I guess I am blessed by having fibro but not bad enough that I find i can't work - I wokr in a nursery with young children which is very hard most days but it is only 2-3 days a week so I find I usually manage. Except fibro has so many symptoms and because of it I have a terrible imune system. Add the many diseases young children seem to attract and share and I end up being ill quite a bit and this can tend to clash with work. Had a particularly crappy day today and just need to ***** I guess...

My boss is not aware I have fibro because I didn't find out until after starting work there and did not want to worry her that I would not be able to do my job but today was one of those times when you feel like you should broach the subject but not know how - she asked to have a word with me and said she was 'concerned' about how many days off I have had through sickness and she knows I cant help it and so on... I dont blame her but I dont know what to say - if i say 'yes, there is a reason my immune system is so bad' i am worried she will think i am unable to do the job or whatever, despite which i know i probably should have said something ages ago but never seemed to find a way to. Anyone have any pointers on how to let her know i have fibro but can and want to keep working?

Re: Fibro, meet work.

I am not sure what advice I have. I had lost a job cuz of not being able to do the work and I have not gotten jobs because of it (brace on hand that I have to wear all the time). Good luck!!! Right now I watch kids in my home but that it getting to be too much but have no choice cuz we need the $$.

Re: Fibro, meet work.

When I started working at the high school, I told the Principal I have fibro and told her I was a hard worker but some days I might be a little slower than usual. She assured me it wouldn't be a problem, and said she thought it would be discriminating if she didn't hire me. I would just tell her you have fibro and that you will have good days and bad days. Do you get the flu vaccine? I got that and the meningitis vaccine just to play it safe. Good luck, and I'm sure everything will work out fine! : )
