Ive had numbness here & there the last couple years. Last time it was my hand for a full day. This time I was scrubbing veggies to freeze last night & the top Hal of my thumb went numb. It's been numb for about 15 hrs now. Why is this? Thankfully no pins & needles, doesn't hurt, just annoying.
Hi tori, I was really glad to read your post as all of yesterday I was numb from the elbow right down to the tips of the fingers. Like you no pins and needles, just numb. This has happened to me before but not for as long. I agree with you annoying.
I get it too - I think it's from holding a part of your body in an odd position - I move the part around a lot in different positions and it seems to sort itself out!!!
Glad to see I'm not the only one... It's just amazing how long it can last!
Woodwalker- how do they test for Carpel tunnel? I had a simple fall about 6 yrs ago & broke 2 main bones & shattered another in my wrist. Stubborn me didn't go to th ER till the next day lol With all the pain we go through, it's amazing how high of a pain tolerance we have anyhow, I'm sure I have arthritis in there. But that's my right wrist & it was my left thumb that was numb...
I have had my back looked at in a couple yrs. I wasn't impressed with the dr I saw & not lifting heavy stuff has made such a difference. My back akwats hurts but better than it used to. I guess with fibro pain, it's been the least of my problems lol
Whats a good back Dr to see? I have been to a chiropractor & sports injury specialist. My chiropractor says all it would take is lifting something heavy, lifting wrong or a simple fall & I could shatter what's left of the disk. I have a sever degenerative disk, arthritis in my back & mild scoliosis. But I really don't know if that's considered bad. I know when I found this out years ago it was bad enough that I had bone rubbing on bone. But the chiro helped that, just didn't notice any more improvement after a few months so never went back...
It almost sounds like you're talking about my back. I also have DDD, bulging discs and that pars defect, add spondylolethesis to the mix, for that it's bone on bone, the disc decided to take a walk I guess.
I see an orthopedic dr for my back, he specializes in the back and have had total confidence with him so far. Some are more comfortable with a neuro surgeon I think.
He wants to fuse, had a 2nd opinion and he wanted to fuse too, the only diff is one wants to go in anterior and the other posterior. either way it's a tough recovery and I decided to wait until I can't take it any more. It's also a crap shoot if it'll get rid of the pain, I was told at best if I'm one of the lucky ones 80% pain reduction would be it
I'm not exactly sure how they check for carpal tunnel, can't remember. So it must have been an easy thing to check. I wake up with numb hands or half hands often from it. The feeling comes back after it's moved around some.
Woodswalker: yours is way worst than mine! I feel lucky to not have it worst than it is... I'm sorry you have to go through so much & fibro on top of it!
I've heard good things about the surgeries... I just hope it doesn't get more painful for you then it already is...
Its just a easy exam for carpal tunnel that is done. An emg can he done to see if there is nerve damage and it is very painful.
I am similar to you both. I have ddd and now have 5 herniated discs with bone spurs and a cyst inside my spine at c6. Spinal cord is moderately narrow c7-t1. So i am in pain all the time even when I dont have fibro flare. Had nerve block done a week ago and that it didnt work. It minimized the neck pain for 5 days and now the pain is right back to where it was. My right hand is always numb and it drives me nuts. My thumb on left hand goes completely numb when it wants to.
I will need surgery on my neck but like Woods im waiting as long as I can. I have also lost 2" in height.
I feel your pain and feel for you both. No fun at all.
My thumb is in a lot of pain on the left righ down to my wrist, I go numb on the back of my left arm? It's so weird I just won't feel it anymore and then it comes back to me? Anyone else? Happened in the front of my leg once too, I'm convinced it has to be spinal nerves but haven't had an MRI yet, only spine xray... Now my upper body feels pretty hood compared to before but my hips and legs and feet have received what my upper body was just going through! I think I like it better on the bottom... Not as scary! Thought I was having a heart attack everyday for 3 months! You guys are so helpful! I'm glad I found this place! Thanks!
