Important question

To all fibro sufferers... Were you just diagnosed with fibro after looking for answers to pain or did you have another problem first? For example: does everyone have a slipped or herniated disk problem, or arthritis, or some type of spinal, bone problem? Or was there trauma of any kind before hand? I swear there has to be something serious wrong in my back (spine) or my neck to be pinching nerves to cause all of this pain! I don't have significant problems in my lower body at all except today I have a bad feeling in my hip on the left (new pain) I can't lay on my back or my feet fall asleep and my chest hurts, can't lay on my stomach or my arms fall asleep and can't lay on either side cuz my arm on that side falls asleep and my back is in agony! I need answers and I am going to beg for an MRI... They are satisfied with my xrays looking good... I am not! Any replies would help! Thanks! Xoxo

Re: Important question

I have always suffered from fibro but it wasn't diagnosed til 2009 when I had such severe pain I couldn't walk or breathe or move. Nothing. I have herniated discs but weren't bad enough to have surgery. A doctor had diagnosed after tons of tests etc was done while I was in the hospital for almost a week.

I was diagnosed with fibro after firstly being diagnosed with osteoarthritis. I think you are right to get MRI done, it will rule in or out a lot of things. Previously I was in a car accident so I wanted to get things checked out.

Re: Important question

August of 2002 I was diagnosed with Viral Meningitis which they said was caused by the West Nile Virus. Was in the hospital 6 days. Upon returning home I felt so bad and did not seem to be getting better, the hurting all over in every single muscle of my body, etc. My doc said it couldn't possibly still be the Viral Meningitis so was sent to specialist after specialist. One would say it was possible I could have Post Viral Syndrome and others would say it was Fibromyalgia. So I set about doing all the research I could find on the two. It is common for Fibro to rear it's ugly head after a viral infection. Life as I knew it prior to August 2002 ceased to exist...now I'm just a useless Chronic Pain/Fibro patient. :(

Re: Important question

Thank you guys for the replies... It seems to me that fibro comes along with some other type of trauma, I feel that I know my body so well and there is something uglier than ugly fibro happening to me! I am a hypochondriac suddenly! I was never this way before but not knowing is my battle, I'm so tired but afraid to sleep :( not that sleep is easy right now, it was until my feet started to go numb when I lay on my back, now there is no good sleep position :( I feel so alone, no one wants to hear about my pain and they certainly don't want to help me! It's like I'm trapped inside myself because I don't want to feel bad emotionally from the lack of support so I just mosey along keeping my pain and my feelings to myself :( I need answers so badly it hurts! I just can't drag my kids to doc appointments so I fight with myself and fight with myself :( does anyone get ear pain? My ears hurt so bad lately! And today my breasts seem very sensitive! I am having the "normal" chest pain but the breast sensitivity is new?

I have ear pain, the left side. I believe you have problems in your cervical area.
Perhaps you have bulging disks or herniated disks. But even if you do a surgery it won't solve the pain. It's called chronic pain.

It feels like I have cervical and thoractic problems :( they didn't see anything on xray so they aren't worried, I am! If I sit too long my head pounds to a point where I can see it moving in a mirror! It's from my neck, my mom and all of her brothers have had surgeries for herniated and fused disks, I think it's genetic? But it did not show on xray? My younger sister at 30 has herniated disks and severe arthritis in her low back and pelvis, she just had a hysterectomy and she has IC... She broke her pelvis in 05 and her pains are much the same as mine but not in the same areas...

Re: Important question

You need to find a doctor that will do a MRI. A xray wont show the problems at all. I had xray done on my knee and it showed everything was fine. Had a MRI and I have arthritis in it. I was told xray eould show it but it didn't.

Yes mri will show arthritis of the neck. I have that as well. Atleast in my case the xray didn't show arthritis in my knee but the MRI did. In a MRI it'll start with a s. Like spondy..something something. My recent MRI of my neck shows I have it all throughout my neck and its starting in the facet joints of C2-C3. I didnt have it before. Look up arthritis of cervical and itll give medical term.

Re: Important question

Xray showed arthritis in my sisters back but MRI showed just how severe it was... MRI I believe will show much more than xrays... I go to the doc on the 14th... I will ask for spinal MRI as well as one of my wrist, hand and elbow on the left, something is very wrong... It is in so much pain! Especially my left thumb, as soon as I stick it on heat it dissapears and returns about 2 minutes after it cools down? Today my body feels pretty good, but the sore spot on my back is very prominent and my thumb feels like I shut it in the car door :(

Re: Important question

Unlike a lot of the posts I have read in this thread, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia because I was looking for answers to the severe pain I have been in for most of my life. I have been tested for every other condition the doctor could think of it being before sending me to a joint specialist who was the one that diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia.

Re: Important question

I got diagnosed after I started having anxiety/panic attacks and an odd pain in my sternum. After many months of testing they figured it was Fibro and it's been going downhill since :P. Before that I had been in a car accident the year before and my mom had passed away '06. So lots of trauma

Re: Important question

I had terrible back pain for years before being diagnosed with fibro. I still struggle with back pain, but now the fibro pain is all over so my back pain seems to have leveled out. I just assumed that it was normal to hurt all the time, so I think I have had fibro for the majority of my life.

Re: Important question

What kind of back pain do you guys have? Is it a stiff pain? A stabbing pain? A bruised pain? Mine feels bruised like someone beat me, but in one spot it's a pain like no other, feels like I have been sliced open and like I literally have a deep open wound :( all my pain radiates from this spot...
