juggling doctors

Hi. I'm new here!
Is anyone else really tired and frustrated with the lack of help from the medical "professionals"? I finally got enough emotional strength to "fire" my rheumy today after being told at my last appointment that "fibromyalgia is not a disease" and "there's nothing I can do for you". Oh yeah . . . . and finally "make an appt for 6 weeks on your way out". REALLY??? It really feels good to feel empowered today! I hope this feeling lasts . . . . . it's so hard to fight most of the time.
Why is it soooooo hard to find a competent, compassionant doctor?? And, if I search for a doctor that claims to be a fibro expert, what I find is a person that doesn't except insurance. Why? If you're in the business to help people who need help, why would you charge them thousands of dollars out of pocket? Making people poor isn't "helping". (sorry, I'm frustrated).

Thanks for reading my vent. I appreciate all of the valuable advice I read on these boards. (more later . . . . I have twin toddlers that need me right now)

Re: juggling doctors

hi and welcome,
well your doc is right that it is not a disease. it is a syndrome. i know you are frustrated but honestly there really isn't anything he can do for you. i have a rheumy i seldom see and we both know he can't help me with fibro or sjogrens. we can ease the symptoms but get rid of it? never.
firing a doc always feels good. giggle. each time is just as wonderful as the first. i have fired 17 doctors and now have 15 or 16 different specialists. losing count, giggle. just got 2 new ones. i have other junk along with fibro. lots of other junk, giggle.
twins! you are one busy momma. give those cuties a hug for me please. i love kids. have 15 grandkids and 8 kids.
come vent whenever you want. we will listen and maybe even get a giggle out of you.
peace,
bluelakelady

Re: juggling doctors

Hey Bluelakelady, Thanks for your post. I know that fibro isn't classified as a disease . . . . the dr. made his statement as if fibro doesn't exist at all. I guess I didn't relay that correctly.
Like most, I'm not searching for a cure . . . . just the right treatment plan for me that helps me function so that my quality of life isn't completely compromised. I need doctors' input for that. (I'm still figuring out which doctors).
A little background while the kiddos are in highchairs -- I take various pills and supplements, get injections, massages, >>>>ugh, just lost my train of thought ugh ugh ugh
Oh well, thanks again for your message. I hug my babies all the time! Eight children and 15 grandchildren? Wow, your nickname should be superwoman!

Re: juggling doctors

Yes, I definitely know what it's like to be shoved from doctor to doctor. I fired my rheumy on about the third appointment, since he kept trying to prescribe the same drug AFTER I had an allergic reaction the first time. Pain management clinic was the most depressing place I've ever been, but they did better than the rheumy. The most useful doctor I've seen was a physiatrist.

Fair warning: Those "fibro experts" who charge a fortune and don't accept insurance? Some of them are scam artists. They don't accept insurance because they provide unproven treatments that insurance would never pay for.
