metatarsal or stress fracture?

For just over a week i have had a sore right foot which hurts when i walk and it hurts across the top in a certain area and if i press on the area i could jump through the roof because it hurts so much. I saw a Dr yesterday who said it looked like metatarsalgia but i have looked online and it says that's the ball of your foot but mines on the top. Mine sounds exactly like a stress fracture but obviously i am not sure.
Any ideas?

Re: metatarsal or stress fracture?

Was this an ortho and did they do xrays? If not, see a Foot & Ankle Board certified ortho. Stress fractures will show up on xray. I've had 5 of them.

No just a regular dr but I have self referred myself to see a podiatrist. How does a stress fracture feel?

Re: metatarsal or stress fracture?

Very similar to the way you described. I still suggest the ortho rather than the pod - more training and experience.

Re: metatarsal or stress fracture?

If it is a stress fracture will i be doing more damage walking on it? I have put a temporary strap around it but it's still really painful and it's making me walk different so my leg is aching too.

Re: metatarsal or stress fracture?

You should be bearing a solid sole shoe - something that doesn't bend. If you can't do that, then I would borrow some crutches until you get a determination. They will probably put you in a surgical shoe, an air cast or a boot or some sort if it's a stress fracture.

Re: metatarsal or stress fracture?

Just been to A&E and had an xray and they said it's not broke and they can't see a fracture. The nurse could see the top of my foot was swollen and hot to touch and said beacause they can't see anything on the x ray that it must be my muscle.

Re: metatarsal or stress fracture?

Still suggest a solid soled shoe till it gets better..Merrell's,Dankso, etc are good and icing will help with the swelling
