| Fibular Sesamoid Fracture
I haven't come across anything more current on this board, so I thought I'd give this a shot and see what y'all think.
On May 6th 2017, I fractured my fibular sesamoid in my right foot at work. I work at a hospital, and honestly thought I just tweaked something in my foot, so I continued to work, and even worked the next day. On May 8th, I went to the urgent care clinic I was told to go to by my employer, they x-rayed my foot and found a fracture, and put me in one of those ugly post op shoes. I didn't get my relief or support from it, but since I had seen the NP, I had to go back the next day to see the doctor. He confirmed the fracture and switched me to a cam walker, with my restrictions being no walking more than 6 hours at work. I thought if anything I'd be NWB for a couple of weeks. My employer basically didn't abide by the restrictions on the 3rd day and I found myself in even more pain. I went back to the doctor and he changed my restrictions to limit of 4 hours of walking/standing. Still total weight bearing. I really would have thought that he would have referred me to a pod or an ortho doc instead of using his DO not DR expertise.
I go back to see the doctor tomorrow for a new x-ray and to see how things are healing. The doctor is thinking I'll be able to get rid of the cam walker, but when I'm at home I don't wear the boot, per the dr instructions, and I still cannot walk correctly without a lot of pain, going up on the ball of my foot is unthinkable. So I don't know what's going to happen, but I don't think any this is normal by any means. When I asked my employer for a 2nd opinion, I was pretty much denied and asked why I felt I needed one, as the doctor stated it was broken, so they didn't see a reason for me needing to get a 2nd opinion.
I pretty much feel that it hasn't healed correctly if at all....but I'd still love to hear your thoughts, opinions and experiences.
Thanks!
