A while back carolcrone posted a question about why her feet had peeled after having been bandaged post-surgically. I was interested because I (and several others on this Board) had a similar problem.
Eko's response was that it was because of trapped sweat and moisture--and it made perfect sense to me. I wonder whether your problem in winter could be similar, because of your feet being bundled in socks and shoes/boots, leaving the moisture nowhere to go? If you're interested in the original post, I found it on the thread: monster foot to backpack in April!, posted by carolcrone. Eko also suggested an easy fix for the problem, if you think it's similar that is.
Just a thought.
