pain flexing toes

This morning the end of the handle of the vacuum handle fell on my foot just in front of the right ankle on my right foot. I was surprised that there was not much pain and no redness. I went about my business, but about 5 hours later I developed pain to the point that I was limping and it got worse over the next few hours. I called my primary care doctor's office and they sent me to urgent care. X-rays show no break. The doctor just told me to come back in a week if it doesn't get better. I don't have any visable signs of damage except a little swelling, but it hurts to flex my toes, especially the big toe and it hurts to walk. Any clue what this is? I'm kicking myself for not taking the crutches that were offered to me.
