Question Big toe bleeding???

Well my big toe often bleeds through my sock, I noticed it comes from the bottom left corner of the nail and it looks like tissue may also be coming out. It kind of hurts when I press just below the skin of the nail. Has anyone else had this problem or know what it might be from? Should I go to a foot doctor for this? It's been like this for at least a month.

Re: Big toe bleeding???

I'm not very sure what's the problem like... could it be ingrown toe nail? Are your shoes comfortable and do you have enough space for your toes to wiggle in? Are your shoes well cushioned? If it ingrown toe nail, cut the nail straight and not curved in as it might make the condition worse. You can go to a doctor to have it cut if you don't know how to. However if you are sure it's not ingrown toe nail. Stop wearing your normal shoes and have somethine like flip flops or sandles for a few days to a week. Then see if your problem is becoming better or not. The last choice is to consult a foot doctor/podiatrist. You might want to see your GP before you head to a specialist. Btw, are you having any pain?

Thumbs down Re: Big toe bleeding???

I didn't think it was from my shoes but now that I think about it, it seems like the only time I notice it bleeding is after I have taken my shoes off, it looks kind of swollen where it's bleeding from, sometimes it itches and gets red. Is it possible to have an ingrown nail at the bottom of the toe? I always thought ingrown nails were only at the top corners.
On my other foot, I hit my big toe on the corner of a wall and I went to the foot dr. and he said it would be grown out by last august, which it pretty much was and I was excited because I thought I could finally wear sandals and not feel uncomfortable, but now the nail on top is turning yellowish and theres a new nail growing under it thats white and looks healthy, but I'm just hoping the white one doesn't grow out and then turn yellow, now I think I'm going to have to end up waiting another 6 months to a year for this toe nail to grow out! Ahh I think I've waited long enough!

Re: Big toe bleeding???

Hi ashley123, I'm not sure where the exact problem is located at your toe. It could be from the friction of the shoe and the toe; the nail might also be rubbing against the inside of the toe that's causing the bleeding. I have problems with shoes that didn't have very good cushion and my toes skin ended up tearing. I also have ingrown toe nails and they were infected and bled too. But now with good shoes, my toes are much better.

Hope your new toe nail grows out nicely!!! Try cute, cartoon bandages on your toe if you want to wear sandles and feel comfortable. good luck!

Re: Big toe bleeding???

It's the beginning stages of a ingrown toenail. Soon you'll start getting yellow puss going through your sock instead of blood. That's also when it REALLY starts hurting.
