Is this Plantar Fasciitis?

Hi All,

Haven't posted here before but wondered if anyone knows what to do about this. About 4 weeks ago I started developing pain in my left heel after suddenly starting these long 7 km walks home. I guess it was too much too soon. So now the heel hurts all the time. Worse in the morning for about 20 minutes and after sitting down for a while. Do shoe inserts help this condition as seen on "heal that pain"? It won't go away.

Thanks...Scott

Inserts help some but the pain will get less over time. If its very painful you will need to see your Dr. Taping the foot helps a lot, taking Ibprophine helps also. Try icing your foot when having pain. Only time is what you will need. It does sound like PF but to be sure see your Dr.

Re: Is this Plantar Fasciitis?

Hi,
It does sound like Plantar Fasciitis to me. I have it in both feet. It hurts.
Actualy I had to go to my Pediotrist today because I was in horrible pain and could not walk. He did a xray to make sure that there wasn't any bone spurs or fractures. There wasn't. It did show that my feet were callapsing to the point I am loosing my arch. My Arch is almost totaly collapsed. He gave me a cortizone shot and I am on anti-inflamitories as well. I also am putting Ice on my foot and doing stretching exercises.

My first attack was about 2 years ago in my right foot and now in my left foot. He put inserts in my shoes for better support, but I will have to be fitted for Orthotics. Orthotics are expensive, and alot of insurances don't cover it. I know mine doesn't...but I am at the point of not caring what it cost I can't deal with the pain.

To be sure what you are dealing with I would deffinatly see a doctor.

Re: Is this Plantar Fasciitis?

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. I still haven't seen the doctor but will do this tomorrow. There is no change in the pain. My shoes are terrible too...I must buy new ones but can't find a style I like. They stopped making Converse one stars in Australia. Time to move on...I think the arch in my left foot is collapsing as you mentioned djl. Hope you can solve the foot pain soon too.

Cheers...Scott

Re: Is this Plantar Fasciitis?

You are walking 7 kms in Converse One Stars???? Are these the old Chuck Conners?

You need some better shoes! Personally I would reccomend the Saucony 3D Grid Hurricane. It is a running shoe, but it has fantastic cushioning with their "Grid" system. It is like you have a little trampoline in the heel of the shoe, but then there is excellent support too. They are the only shoes I was able to wear when I did retail management and was on my feet for 8-12 hours a day. They were also recommended by my Podiatrist and Orthopedic Surgeon. Spenco makes great inserts too - also recomended by Pods and Orthos.

Give the better shoes and cushining/supportive inserts a chance. You might be suprised.
