I just had bunion surgery on Dec 15 and i also got 2 screws put into the side of my foot to correct my joints. I have been laid up for almost a week now and bored out of my mind. My doctor says that I will be in the splint for 2 weeks (got one down) and a walking cast for 4 weeks. Besides being bored to death, sleeping is a big problem. I am so uncomfortable laying on my back and elevating my foot all night, is there any other way to help with this sleep discomfort? I just want a few good nights of sleep throughout this duration without asking the dr for more meds.
left foot 7/23/04, right foot 11/22/04.....how are you elevating your foot?? put support behind your knee, & angle it to your thigh. I used a child size bean bag. It cradled my entire leg & my leg didn't roll off. my foot actually was not supported, the bean bag raised my calf w/my foot hanging off the bag. I had no trouble sleeping & could roll to the side.
That was pretty much how I handled it -- only I used squishy pillows instead of a bean bag, but supporting the knee and letting the foot hang off, was great help.
Another thing I did, when i was laying on the sofa was to use cusions under my knee and calf and (gently!) resting the sole of my foot against the armrest of the sofa, it kinda supported it and for whatever reason, felt good.
