swelling and bending toes after surgery
I had bunion surgery 8 weeks ago today. I've had pins put in and the bunion removed. I still have swelling, and when I went for another follow-up on Tuesday, the doctor said I was not bending my toes enough and the scar tissue was becoming hard. I told him I've been bending them and walking "normally" on my foot in my tennis shoe, but he said I apparently wasn't bending it enough (it should bend up and down like the other foot). He wants to put my out and bend the toes (large toe and second) and then give me a cortizone shot while I'm out. He said he'd give me 3 more weeks, and if the motion doesn't improve, I'd have to have the procedure. I'm definitely bending it as much as I can, and I'm even "pushing off" on it more than I normally would when I walk. To me, the range of motion is pretty good, but to the doctor, it isn't. Since I've been pushing it more the last couple of days, the swelling is worse and even my tennis shoe is tight! I'm very frustrated! I don't want to have another procedure, even though it's a quick one, since it involves anestesia, operating room, etc. Any advise from someone who's gone thru this? My doctor is one of the best in the Chicago surburban area, so I know he knows what he's talking about. Help!!! Thanks much.
