injured foot

I have posted previously about my broken ankle. I am seven weeks out from hardware removal and arthroscopy. I am healed and have been walking fine. I am also in PT.

Now I have a new problem. Two days ago, I dropped a book on my injured foot. I immediately put ice on it, but it hurt to walk on it, although I could walk. I hit the foot right by the little toe. I now have a small bruise that hurts to touch. I can only wear one pair of shoes, wide shoes, but only for a short time. I get sharp pains through my foot and ankle, but it could be from my past surgery (although I never had the sharp pains before). Should I go to the doctors and get it x-rayed? I do not want to go in for a little bruise, but it is uncomfortable. I do not know what to do.

Re: injured foot

After a couple of days you should be able to get a feel for whether or not you think it is probably only a bruise. If you have any doubts that it wouldn't hurt to go to the doctor and get some x-rays done. After I had surgery on my ankle I was doing some conditioning involving stairs and I fell hitting the area around my little toe. The area looked alright at first but then started bruising and it hurt a lot to wear a shoe. My parents made me get x-rays done and I did have a fracture. Good luck.

Re: injured foot

Go ahead and have the X-rays. Better safe than sorry, right? It is worth peace of mind even if it turns out to be OK. Hope it is just a bruise! Good luck
