Foot/toe cramps... anyone else?

For the past month or so, I've been getting foot/toe cramps about 10 times a day. They come out of nowhere. I can just be sitting here barefoot and low and behold, a cramp.

When it happens, I'll usually have one or two toes that will point straight down or lean to the side and get stuck that way. It lasts anywhere from 1 minute to 5 minutes. And OMG does it hurt!!!

It happens when I walk, when I'm sitting, shoes or no shoes, even in the middle of the night. It doesn't matter. And it happens to both feet (not at the same time).

My regular doc is stumped and of course, so am I.

I have fibromyalgia and a couple herniated discs in my neck, but I don't think that either one has anything to do with this.. but I don't know.

Any ideas? Could it be a vitamin deficiency?
I don't know if it makes a difference, but I'm VERY flat-footed.

Re: Foot/toe cramps... anyone else?

that's your problem right there! YOu have flat feet. I have learned alot about feet these last six weeks. I had a bunionectomy Jan. 25th. There is a muscle on the side of your foot which is responsible for your cramps in your feet and toes. Because your feet are flat that muscle is pulled in an unnatural position all the time. Who knows why its just now starting to bother you. MY PT swears by orthotics. Don't try to get some at the drug store. Go get evaluated by a PT and have Orthotics made.
The only reason I know any of this is because before surgery I was having foot cramps every day and night but mine were from the toe overlapping my second toe as a result of the bunion and the PT explained that the muscle I referred to was being pulled. Hope this helps
