Thumbs down Partial Weight Bearing

I am finishing up my 8 weeks of NWB after PTTD surgery, heel shift and bone graft. Doing well just a little confused on the PWB. I do not have crutches and only use a rollabout. Does anyone have specific suggestions on implementing PWB. I am currently in a boot and am going to start slowly. Do you think I could walk on my toes, would be that be PWB or would I still the rollabout around the house ?

Re: Partial Weight Bearing

Hiya

Partial weight bearing usually means only putting some of your weight through that foot. I've had similar surgery to you, and have used crutches throught. I know what a roll about is though, and you dont put any weight through it then. Can you possibly get some crutches? I can't see another way round this otherwise.

Good luck

Re: Partial Weight Bearing

I don't see partial weight bearing possible unless you use crutches. The rollabout does not allow for any weight bearing at all. Crutches will allow you the control the amount of weight you can apply through your entire foot. Using your toes primarily is not a good thing--the weight must gradually be distributed through your entire foot. When you do pwb begin slowly, putting only enough weight that does not create alot of pain (some discomfort may be normal-check with your doc on how much discomfort/pain is appropriate for your situation). Good Luck!!
