Re: Has anyone heard of an OATS procedure?
Welcome to the Board. You will find that this is a great source of information. regarding the OATS Procedure - Yes many here have had it or similar type of operations to restore their articular surface. My son had a failed OCD Drilling in April 2006 and a 9mm Allograft Plug installed on April 17, 2007. He is about 5 months post op and in PT 3 days a week.
Who is doing your OATS Procedure - What hospital?
We are from Melbourne Florida and moved here to Michigan in 2004 so my son could train at Detroit Skating Club.
When they did my son this last time he had a nerve block that was a drip anesthetic installed via catheter in his thigh. He wore it for 4 days and it was a real God-Send - Ask for it.
They had to cut through Daniel's Tibia to get to the top part of his Talus where he had the damage. He was off his feet for about 9 or 10 days then they put his walking cast but he was still Non Weight Bearing for another 4 or 5 weeks. He started weight bearing a little around June 4th and was still using crutches until around July 1st. He was fitted for new figure skates today. He has an MRI next Wednesday and sees his Surgeon next Thursday so I anticipate that he will get the OK to start light ice skating again in about another month. (6 Months) and probably if all goes OK will be able to start adding more extreme moves for the next 3 or 4 months.
Welcome to the Board and Good Luck on your surgery next week.
