Recovery From Bunion Surgery

how long do you need to stay off your foot after having bunion surgery?

Re: Recovery From Bunion Surgery

It really depends on the procedure your surgeon chooses to use.

Re: Recovery From Bunion Surgery

stepbystep is right, it varies a lot depending on the severity of the bunion and type of surgery

it ranges from walking out of the surgical center in a supportive boot to being on crutchs for 6-8 weeks with no weight bearing

Re: Recovery From Bunion Surgery

Or walking out in a simple velcro-strapped "surgical sandal"... (Then going home and staying off your feet for most of two weeks, after which gradually getting getting back to extensive walking and standing.) I've never heard of anyone being able to do unlimited walking immediately-- ice & elevation are necessary for healing, especially to bring down the inevitable swelling. It really does depend on your feet, type of surgery, and doctor's methods, but I'd say count on a minimum of two weeks off and don't expect to be totally back to normal (and wearing all your old shoes) for at least two months.
