how soon can I exercise after toe surgery

how soon can I exercise after toe surgery? I had four toes on my left foot operated on for hammer/claw toes. It's been four weeks since the surgery, and the last pin went out today. When may I start exercising, such as elliptical trainer, running or stationary bike (spinning) or recumbent bike? Thanks!

Doctors vary on this. You should ask your physician.

As far as I know it takes 6-8 weeks for the bones to heal, regardless of what procedure was performed. I'd certainly check with the doctor before increasing activity levels, as it could completely ruin the surgery if you overdo it. It is however probably a good idea to do some stretching exercises so that your range of motion isn't permanently limited. I'm getting ready to have a similar procedure (3 hammertoes on each foot) so I'd like to pick your brain for a moment if I may... just a couple questions, I promise:

on a scale of 1 to 10 how would you rate the pain?

can you describe the size and appearance of the scars? I would imagine that the incisions haven't fully closed and that you probably have some redness and swelling but I'd like to know for sure

how long did your pins stay in?

Thanks a bunch and good luck with your recovery!
