Question sore sides of feet

I was diagnosed with haveing planters fashidis (sp) and since have had inserts made for my shoes, and now I'm haveing real pain on the outside of each foot, where it's hard to walk most days , any one know what it could be ,,I need some help with this! I don't even know who to talk to about it, my dr has no idea what it could be and my podiatrist doesn't seem to know either. HELP

Re: sore sides of feet

From what I've read Planters Fasciitis causes pain in the heel of the foot. Do your feet hurt more upon walking or standing or is it worse at rest, like at bedtime?

I've been having pain throughout both feet. It started at the balls of my feet and then worked it's way up to the toes and now it's gone to the sides, as you've explained but all of five doctors cannot figured out what is the cause. I've been through nerve conduction test, muscle test, x-rays, blood test, all of which have come out negative. My pain is more severe at nighttime. What is your medical history?

Re: sore sides of feet

Were these custom orthotics? If so, it sounds like they may be over correcting you. The medial arch may be too high. Did you gradually work into wearing them? If you start wearing them full time with no break in period they can cause a lot of pain. A consult with an orthopaedic foot and ankle specialist may be in order.

Re: sore sides of feet

I went back to my family dr. and he thinks now i have tendon attachment problems, so I 'm off to the podiatrist again this month, my feet ache mostly after I've been on them awhile and then I rest and get up again and can hardly walk, and they remain sore then till I get my cream on and put my feet up or soak them in hot water. It almost brings me to tears the pain that shoots through my sides of feet, and I work as a nurse so you can imagine the pain I'm in at work aauugg!!!

Re: sore sides of feet

You probably do have a problem with the medial arch correction in your custom orthotics. when I had a plantar fasciotomy 18 months ago that severed the medial and central fascia bands to fix my long running fasciitis, the only pain I had left after fully healing was a similar pain on the outside edge of my foot. My podiatrist recognized that the surviving lateral band of the fascia was taking up more of the mechanical load since she had severed the other two bands and that my original orthotics were no longer properly correcting for my revised foot structure. With new orthotics, which are amazingly comfortable and semi-flexible rather that purely rigid like the old ones, that pain on the side of my foot quickly faded away.
-ignore my other post where I've now redeveloped fasciitis in that same lateral band, I was truly pain free for 12 months until it redeveloped. Definitely get your orthotics checked.
