Sharp pain in back of heel

Lately, I've been having a sharp pain in the back of my left heel when I either squat down or even if I use my hand to pull my foot upward while straighening my leg at the same time. I had it hurting when I was bending over to shovel snow last night too. It seems that the pain is caused by anything that stretches that area on my heel. Is there a nerve or muscle in that spot that I should be concerned about?

It also hurts in that spot if I press hard on it, and in the exact location, which is a little difficult to find in this way.

Any idea what this problem could be?
