Burning on bottom of feet

Needing some advice here. What does it mean when the bottom of your feet hurt? Both insteps hurt. It's like a burning sensation. It first started hurting a month ago when I wore some slip on flip flop type of shoes. I thought that maybe I pulled some muscles. Then it went away. Now it's back. It comes and goes. Is this plantar fasciatis thing? Does anyone know what it might be? I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!
