I am hurting so bad with my feet

It's been a long time since I posted here. I had a Mortons Neuroma removed a couple of years ago, and had a bunion removed on the same foot. For the past months I've had really bad burning on the bottoms of both feet, along with my feet looking red. Along with that I have a painful callous on the ball of my foot. The Dr. who did the surgery said I would need orthotics after my surgery, but because my insurance won't cover the $400 I have not gotten them. What can I do for the burning? I've tried all kinds of lotions and soaking them but I get no relief. I'm on my feet 8 hours a day, and when I come home I can barely get in the door and get off my feet. A friend at my job went to a place called "FOOT SOLUTIONS" and was fitted with shoes, and she loves them and is out of pain. Another person I know has them also and loves them. They're kind of pricey($280) , but worth it. I'm wondering if I go and get the shoes without getting fitted with the orthotics would be okay? Anyone else in my situation please respond. Also, I have to wear black socks at work and tried about every kind there is, and still hurting. I need some ideas I can try. Thanks.

I had a problem with my feet being really painful when I got up first thing in the morning - it was almost too painful to actually stand on the soles of my feet! Fortunately, it went away by itself after a few minutes, but it gave me a real fright. From somewhere I had heard about diabetic neuropathy, and I wondered if it was that. I had put on a lot of weight in a short time after giving up smoking and, although I wasn't that bothered about the weight gain because I was so glad not to be a smoker, I began to wonder if the weight gain had caused pre-diabetes and these foot pain symptoms.

At any rate, to cut a long story short, I took this as a warning sign, lost weight and the pain in my feet went.

My questions are therefore (and I hope you don't mind my asking these slightly personal questions):

1) How is your weight? Are you normal weight or do you weigh more than you used to?

2) Are you diabetic? If so, then you need to see a specialist, but I would also look into taking alpha-lipoic acid, which can be taken for diabetic neuropathy. It would be a good idea to have your blood tested for diabetes and then to ask your doc about taking ALA.

Just losing a few pounds got rid of my feet pain.

Considering the amount of pain you are dealing with, the orthotics really don't sound overly expensive. Is it possible you could buy them?

I agree. I have custom insoles and can't function without them. The first pair cost me $500 several years ago. I had to pay out of pocket. I just bought a new pair but from a different place. They are made just like my first insoles but where only $180. The first place is over 3 hours away but the second place is only 45 minutes away. So look around and get different prices. Insoles can make a huge difference not only with your feet but with the whole body. Good luck

If you can find out the brand name your doc is using you could look it up online. I got one pair from him cuz my insurance only pays for one set a year. I got a 2nd pair online for $50.00. I looked into several sights and pricing does very.
Is it a burning pain? Does it look molted? Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) or Regional Sympathy Dystrophy (RSD) can happen after a surgery, sometimes it can take just a bump. It is really something you need to discuss with a doctor and hopefully they know about these. There are drugs out there to help. Please get it checked out for your peace of mind. Don't let get get any worse.
