Re: calcaneous fracture

Many of us can relate. A calcaneus fracture is a very complicated injury.

Re: calcaneous fracture

Hi, Sherry: My husband shattered his heel back in April from a fall from a roof. He had surgery 9 days later--a plate and six screws. He is walking now without crutches and he occasionally gets the popping sound you describe. From what I've heard, it's scar tissue that is breaking up as you start moving the foot again. Not a bad thing!

Re: calcaneous fracture

Thanks for the info!Is your husband still in therapy? My last ct scan last week is showing that somehow,Ive actually bent my plate somehow...I still have alot of pain, and discomfort. Im not sure how much is due to the damaged plate..They have suggested having the plate removed. Im healed 99%,The doctor said..Im not sure where to go from here.

I did mine in Feb 09 ( plate and 6 screws) ..... the popping you describe is much less for me now - it does improve! I can now walk 2 miles without a limp (although my foot and both hips are tired and sore after)!

I can cycle no problem though and regularly cycle 33 miles in a day!
Keep heep healing!

Nope, he's not done any PT for quite a while. He's doing really well...does occasionally get the popping sound but that's just the scar tissue breaking up. He is on his feet nearly all day and by the end of the day has a limp. How do you think your plate got bent? My husband's foot surgeon said that once the bone is healed, the plate and screws could be removed if necessary. Have you tried to talk to another doctor? What kind of doctor are you seeing? My husband's dr is a podiatrist certified in podiatry surgery. If your dr's not sure how to proceed from here, maybe you want to get a second opinon? Good luck!
