torn tendon in ankle

Went to ankle specialist to find out why I have pain in the ankle the outside part, this has been going on for 6 months or so, pain got so bad was going up my shin, was told after an Mri that one of the tendons is torn, but since the pain is not as bad as it was 2 weeks ago, he said that we should leave it alone. Was wondering if this was a good idea or should I seek a second opion on this matter???????
