has anyone ever heard of this ? its for hallux varus. they take part of the bone away on my big toe, then correct it with pins. this will bring my big toe closer to my second toe since it deviates out. its almost opposite of bunion surgery. this will be my 8th foot surgery and it better be my last. i have not looked this procedure up on the internet and i am praying so hard it works. the surgery is sept 8.
Have you looked up the procedure? I had a traditional Akins, and it worked great. I would hope that putting your toe in the right alignment would help, and healing would be successful. I know you have been through a lot as I've been reading and posting on the board since my surgery in May of 2008. If you haven't already, check the board archives for the procedure. Let us know what you find out. I'll look for it on the web too.
In looking up procedures I discovered I may be a dingbat! I think I had an Austin, not Akins. See what a year after surgery and being in your forties can do. The real news is I learned that an Akins is also called
"Wedge Osteotomy of the Halus (sp?) Proximal Phalanx" Maybe you can learn information looking up the longer name for the procedure. Good Luck!
