Ripped off toenail

Hi guys,
A few days ago i was on a cycling machine and my foot got caught in the middle part where the crank is and ripped my big toenail clean off.
We wen't to the doctors and they gave us some bandages and some gauges to put on it.
Well i've been soaking my foot in boiled water (which has obviously been cooled down) with salt in. Is this ok to prevent infection?
Also i have been walking around the house without bandages on because i think it needs some air to get to it.
There is some clear liquid oosing out but i think this is plasma? This is ok.
There is also a minor cut on the very sensitive skin where the nail was.

Thanks for any advice guys.

Re: Ripped off toenail

The wound is pussing a clear liquid still and there is a slight yellow colour on the nail bed.
Also it is still very red.
Is it infected? Any help much appreciated.
