big toe fix and 2 - 4 shortened surgery.
I saw my OS yesterday and I am now on the list for surgery in a few months time.
the operation he will do is to fix my big toe as the tip (last bone) is at right angles. he said it was like a bunion on the last joint instead of the usual 2nd. This is because i have a very short 1st metatarsal.
to help me get some balance back and to stop the pain in the other toes (they take all the weight my big toe should) he is going to shorten the other 4.
this means all of my toes on the right foot will be cut and re-aligned.
the operation is a Weil's. has anyone had this done?
I am type 1 diabetic, so the choice for surgery has been a very difficult one and I have to get in tip top control before the op. But i cant cope with this any longer.
Anyway, i was wondering how long the surgery lasts? i have a fear of anaesthetics and this is the main thing really making me panic at the moment. how long will i have to be asleep! I see the pre op team 2 weeks before the op so can talk about it then, but i have 2 + months to worry before then!
my OS says I will be in plaster for 3 weeks, then a walking boot and crutches and would be upto doing much till atleast 3 - 6 months after. I have been told i will be in for about 3 nights.
can anyone offer advice? any pre op plans you can suggest?
I am worried but am so pleased that something is finally being done.
