Hi everyone, I had my big toe fused on October 28th. It seems to have been going well. I went to see the podiatrist to see about getting my orthotics adjusted. He wanted to cast me for new ones. I decided against that at this point in time. I made an appointment with him for when he returns in March.
I asked him how long it should take before there would be some evidence of fusion on the x-rays. He suggested I get my foot x-rayed again. I did that on Monday, and then saw my doctor on Friday. She said the x-ray showed that the bone might be receding, and referred me to get a bone scan because this can be a sign of osteomyelitis, or infection in the bone. Apparently that gets treated with six weeks of antibiotics.
I asked her how this works, and she suggested we cross that bridge when we get to it. She will send the x-ray report and bone scan report to the surgeon.
I am a little discouraged by this, but not worried......yet. I get the bone scan on Thursday and then we will go from there. I trust my doctor and she is good.
Has anyone experienced this? Any tips on helping with healing?
