Surprised by Brostrom recovery
Before my surgery, the doctor told me 2 weeks splint, 3 weeks cast (progressing to full weight bearing), somewhere between 8-10 weeks to be back in a show which meant 3-5 weeks in a boot. I was pretty surprised by the timeline considering the experiences of others.
When I went to get my cast off on the 13th I was full weight bearing in it, but limited distance. So when I got put in a boot and told I didn't have to sleep in it, could start PT in a week, and in the meantime could work on flexion/extension I was amazed. The doctor also had me stand up on it barefoot less than 10 minutes after the cast was taken off. It was the oddest feeling having my foot on the flat, hard floor, but no pain. I get sore walking a lot in the boot and I end up pretty swollen at the end of the day, but extension is coming along. I can also take some steps barefoot without the boot. My ankle feels so different now. It actually feels stable, even in its weakened state.
I used an orthopedic doc with a foot and ankle fellowship. He did my bunionette surgery too. Love him and his staff.
