Post posterior tibial tendon surgery questions

HI there - i had surgery on my ptt on december 14th, am now in boot and trying to weightbear. Just wondering if anyone else is having the experience i am. i am scared to weightbear too much and feel unsteady to and especially cannot imagine giving up my crutches yet, but the dr said i need to try to weightbear or will get other complications later. also the wound site isnt healing very well as the boot rubs a bit, only slightly but enough. it isnt infected but is going white as if the skin is macerated and it is worrying me another reason i dont want to walk too much. it is a bit different for me as having it done through the public health system in australia means drs arent as available to you. I am a worrier anyway so am i worrying too much?!

Re: Post posterior tibial tendon surgery questions

I had a different surgery, but my boot is also rubbing on the incision. I'm 6 weeks post-op and while the incision is healed, it doesn't feel so great to have it rubbing. I cut off the tube portion of a hiking sock (the thick, fuzzy ones) and wear it in addition to a sock. I'm actually wearing 2 1/2 socks. A hiking sock liner (polypro/polyester with moisture wicking), a cotton knee high sock, and the hiking sock tube. People think I'm crazy, but I don't care. I'm comfortable and that's what matters most.

Re: Post posterior tibial tendon surgery questions

good idea but it was over 100 degrees here yesterday and i dont think the heat/sweat is helping the wound either... so wearing even more socks may not help... well it may help with comfort but not with the wound healing. its also pretty hard to buy thick socks here in middle of summer, i got my hubby to go and get me some but there arent all that thick. I am tempted to take the boot off while sitting around but dont want to inadvertently make things worse for the tendon...

Re: Post posterior tibial tendon surgery questions

Hi there,
I have problems w my PTT too. I have had it lengthened once and it seems to be causing issues again.

May I ask what you had done to your PTT?

Thanks very much. Hope you are getting better!

Cheers,

Re: Post posterior tibial tendon surgery questions

I had an accessory bone removed and repair to slight tear in the tendon caused by the bone. Prior to the op i had been in pain for 18 months, been in boot before etc. It is a debilitating condition i think. this last week in the boot has been really depressing me as i want to walk but the wound pain is preventing me being courageous enough to make much effort to weightbear. I am going to see the specialist tomorrow so i just hope he has an action plan for me! I have gotten so down about it i am even off my food... which i know wont help the healing... how long have you had your problems with it?
regards
Louise

Re: Post posterior tibial tendon surgery questions

Hi
Much different problem than me. Sounds like a tough road.
I have a neuromuscular issue that causes my tendons to contract and stay that way, so periodically, I need to have them lengthened. The pain from the tightening is quite something and no amount of stretching seems to help.

I am noticing a pull now and a change in my gait/foot posture, so I am deducing that the PTT is the problem, since it is an inverter tendon.

Best
