PTTD surgery recovery: slow toenail growth in cast?
While in a cast recovering from posterior tibial tendon surgery for eight weeks, I noticed my toenails in the casted/injured foot were no longer growing. I cut the nails on my other foot twice before having to do anything with the injured foot's nails. Since having the cast off and weight bearing again, they have started to grow. Is this a normal side effect of the cast? Maybe less circulation going on down there? Calcium being stolen to mend bone and other tissue at the surgery site? Just curious if anyone else has noticed this. I couldn't find any reference to it on the web anywhere and am fascinated to learn more about the body's healing process.
