Screw Removal after lapidus procedure

Does anyone know or have experience with the removal of screws after a lapidus bunionectomy? What does it entail and what about recovery?

Re: Screw Removal after lapidus procedure

I didn't have a lapidus bunionectomy, but I did recently have 3 screws removed from my foot. It's not "nothing" but it certainly isn't as bad as having them put in. My discharge instructions said back to work after 2 days as pain and swelling allow. I had a few stitches and went on pain meds for a couple days and used my walker for about 4 days. One of my incisions was directly on my heel, so hence the walker. They give you a special shoe to wear after so it doesn't irritate the stitches. I had my stitches out after 13 days. My foot is a million times more comfy without the screws and stitches. Glad I had it done.

Good luck to you!

OUCH! How annoying! You'll be more comfy without that going on.

Re: Screw Removal after lapidus procedure

I just had the procedure done to both feet Aug. 5th and as far as I know the internal screws stay put and are not removed. The screws are to provide stability (at least in my case) as I have hyper mobility in my feet.
