metatarsal fusion with flat foot reconstruction

I'm 6mo post op metatarsal fusion with flat foot reconstruction..the area that i'm still having problems with is the metatarsal fusion on the top of my foot. I'm still having a lot of swelling and pressure/pain in that area when I'm on my feet too much, requiring me to still wear my boot part of the day. The rest of my foot is fine. Any one else have this done?

By metatarsal fusion, are you referring to a cotton ostotomy?

No, I had an evans osteotomy, posterior tibial tendon and spring ligament repair, and metatarsal fusion..he fused my first metatarsal with 2 screws to stabilize my foot

Re: metatarsal fusion with flat foot reconstruction

i had big toe fusion almost 6 years ago, but i had 7 screws and a metal plate. after a year, the hardware was removed because it was so painful. did your toe fuse? at 6 months i know i did not have to wear the boot-just wide shoes. check with your dr.

Re: metatarsal fusion with flat foot reconstruction

I had the metatarsal-tarsal fusion with my flatfoot reconstruction, but I'm only 2.5 months post-op. I would think, given the anatomy, that the area of fusion would be a sore point for a while, but have you talked to your Dr. about it?

Re: metatarsal fusion with flat foot reconstruction

Yes, my doc is not worried..says I need more time. It's very frustrating because my job requires me to be on my feet all day which I cant tolerate right now so i'm doing a different job where i sit half of the day. It's been 6 mo!! Total frustration and still not convinced that i will ever walk without pain again
