walking boot causing pain
I have a ruptured ligament as well as a bone bruise and two fractures in my ankle. I was fitted for a walking boot and told to wear it 24/7 for the next week or so. I'm non-weight bearing and am on crutches so this is really to immobilize my leg at this point. The boot goes all the way to my knee and has an adjustable heel because my foot is stuck at about a 30 degree angle and I can't flex it at all. I just started PT to get motion back but it is going to be a long process.
Originally I was put in a splint but it was excruciating. The pressure it put on my ankle made it impossible to lift my leg or use my crutches. I know it's light but it felt like a million pounds of pressure on my busted ankle. The walking boot is creating a similar sensation. The top of my foot, near my ankle aches with the boot on and it feels like there is so much weight/pressure on my busted ankle. I can't even crutch from one room to another wearing this thing.
Having just an ace bandage on feels a MILLION times better.
I'm working from home right now so I'm not moving around that much as it is. Do I really need this boot on 24/7 and is there anyway to make it more bearable? It hurts even if I am just sitting still. When I take it off the pressure lifts but the pain doesn't go away for hours. I feel like it's doing more damage than good.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!
