Bottoms of feet burn

The bottoms of my feet get sore and burn after I spend time standing or walking. I have no heal pain. The discomfort is in front of the heal to the ball of my feet; burning on the tissue of my feet which feels good to apply ice. I am recovering from a lumbar fusion surgery. I've been walking everyday as PT ever since surgery. Does anyone know if the foot burning could be connected to my lower back issue? Or something else?
