Wink bone bruise on talus

hi everybody.

i come here to seek help. i seriously sprained my right ankle in a basketball game on april 30 2011, and the xray result turned out normal despite brutal pain and swelling. two weeks later i required an MRI coz i still could't walk. MRI showed bone bruise on the talus and tibia, and i therefore spent a month in cast. on july 27 2011 i had my MRI re-check, which showed that the bone marrow edema had faded to some extent. i've been on crutches for over three months. i went to several specialists who gave contradictory advices, some suggested longer period on crutches (or partial weight-bearing) while others ordered promt weight-brearing...i am a bit confused.

i am a chinese and don't find that much information on talus contusion on the internet domestically (much information about talus fracture though), so i googled to find here. i know some friends who undergo similar states, and it seems such bone bruise takes a long long time to heal and might cause certain sequela if not attentively treated. would any friend kindly tell, when can i leave my crutches and how american doctors treat such problems? thanks a lot!

Re: bone bruise on talus

I heard any bone bruise take a long time to heal and the pain is extreme. I fell of my brothers porch (he was redoing the handrail). I went to the hospital where they thought I broke my tailbone. Here is was badly bruised. Sitting, standing, laying down was impossible. I believe it was close to 5-6 months to fully heal. If I broke it, it would have healed in 2-3 months. Go figure. I'm sorry you are not healing faster and you in pain. Remember I was there. Time will heal yourself. Be patient and follow dr orders. Wish you a speedy recovery. Best of luck.

Re: bone bruise on talus

thx

what really frustrates me is that bone bruise takes even a longer time to heal than that of fracture...hard to believe.
