stress fracture damage
i hurt my foot--of all things--playing golf nearly 2 months ago. i wasn't even walking while playing. after 6 weeks or so, it was hurting pretty moderate to severely during simple tasks like walking to the mailbox. i went to the doctor and he x-ray'd and saw a stress fracture. the fracture had formed a bone callous which the dr. said resembled the foot healing itself. he gave me a soft boot that velcroed to my foot like a sandal and said come back in 3 weeks.
the soft boot thing he said immobilized my foot from bending at the toes, which is completely untrue. it really flexed just like a shoe, so i just wore my regular shoes and walked flat footed with a limp to reduce the toes bending. after about 2 weeks i had minimal pain and have since been walking normally. occasionally i will feel a little pain while walking, but ultimately it's not that bad. my foot is still swollen during the day time, though much less than it was before i started taking it easy. i haven't played golf during this time and generally have been very lazy on it, though i had to walk to a ballgame recently which did cause it a little discomfort.
i'm just wondering if it is healing? since i hurt occasionally doesn't that mean it's still broken? i would like to get out and play golf again, but don't know if 3 weeks of rest is enough time. i would hate to play and then reinjure it more severely right off the bat. any thoughts on how i should treat it from here?
