Brostrom - 2 weeks NWB then FWB as tolerated?

Has anyone else heard of a recovery this short?

My doctor is looking to do a Brostrom using bone anchors and possible switching to a tendon graft.

She told me 2 weeks NWB and then I can walk. I'm reading a lot of posts that are 6 weeks NWB!

Re: Brostrom - 2 weeks NWB then FWB as tolerated?

Hi There-

I had a brostrom about 10 months ago. My doctor was also on the more aggressive side. The first week I was NWB and I got my splint off, and my doctor told me I could start WBing as tolerated. I didn't put any weight on my foot until the 3 week mark. I probably could have sooner, but was just scared. It worked out great and my ankle is very stable. Goodluck to you!

Re: Brostrom - 2 weeks NWB then FWB as tolerated?

The typical post-op course for a Brostrom repair is 6 weeks of non-weight bearing. With physical therapy initiated afterwards. It is quite unheard of to progress to FWB as tolerated in 2 weeks after the repair.
