Foot worse for the wear 12 weeks Post-op

Hi everyone-

I'm not able to get a straight answer from my doctor and I'm freaking out a little so I thought I'd try to get some answers here! I had an Austin bunionectomy on my right foot on 10/24. I was able to leave the hospital weight bearing on the side of my foot. I was only out of work for a week but I do have a desk job where I was able to elevate my foot for most of the day. 4 weeks non-driving. The pain has simmered but hasnt actually ever gone away and now it's in some weird places. I get a burning pain on the top the side of my foot just behind where my bunion was. It will randomly start, last about 30seconds with an intesity of about 8 then just stop. This happens at least 3 or 4 times a day. I have zero, literally, range of motion in my big toe going down and this is after 4 weeks of physical therapy twice a week. Unfortunately none of these are my biggest concern. My great toe has actually moved so far over it is now slightly resting on top of my second toe. It never did that before surgery I only had the bunion on the side of my foot. I ask the doctor about it and he basically told me the tendons are pulling it that way and with PT he's HOPING we can stop it where it is and keep it from going over any further but that it's permanent. If you look at my foot it actually looks worse than it did before the surgery!! I try to ask him when I should start worrying that I still have pain and all he tells me is he doesn't like to put time lines on things. I guess I'm just curious if any of this is normal or if I should be worried that something is not right and maybe I should try to get a second opinion. It's possible I'm freaking out about nothing but never hurts to ask right

Thanks!!

Re: Foot worse for the wear 12 weeks Post-op

That sounds weird. I would use those toe spacers in between those toes and tape the second toe to the third. I'm having to do that for 2 more weeks because one of the bones dropped out of it's joint after the pin came out. The space between my big toe and the second is HUGE but I'm thinking it will drift together eventually. HTH.
