Re: Started PT today

Everyone is different. Do you wear shoes at home or go barefoot? Walking barefoot can help build those little muscles. I wonder if the brace is hindering your progress?

Re: Started PT today

I go barefoot whenever possible. I hate shoes. My PT thinks I should continue to wear the brace, that my ankle just isn't ready to be out of the brace on unstable land, etc. I am finally walking up the steps normally...but coming down is still a struggle.

Re: Started PT today

DMBNJ--I can't believe you may not get more than 4 PT visits!! I had 24 or 25 regular insurance visits and am still going to do the maintenance program when I get back. I pay $40/month for unlimited use of the entire PT gym/equipment and they provide some guidance and can change my program, but that's it. But I understand where you're coming from because my first OS was a general spots med and not a foot/ankle OS. I didn't have PT after my first ankle surgery and a lot of other things were way different that have made the recovery this 2nd time around WAY easier!! I'm so sorry! Praying you will get more visits!!

JOYFUL-- I hope Domino's goes well tonight!! Let us know asap!!

Re: Started PT today

JOYFUL--I have the same issue with stairs. Going up is ok for the most part, but I still can't go down normally. I can't bend the ankle to that extent of dorsiflexion with all my body weight on it. So I have to lead with my good foot (the right one) EVERY step and then bring the injured one (left one) down to it! Highly annoying and I'm do over it. My team has been great about it thankfully! We've had a lot stairs and hills (some steep and some uneven terrain). Now I know why my doctor told me to wear the lace up brace full time and gave me extra pain meds and told me to take them with me. Love my doctor! He thinks of everything!

Re: Started PT today

I'm so glad you have such a great doctor! I was wondering how you were doing Hollywood! I worked tonight for 2.5 hours.... it was throbbing by the time I was done, it really hurt to walk. My whole foot felt like it was on fire and the ankle is really swollen. I am home now, trying to find something to eat and then I'm going to ice it down. So glad it was only 2.5 hours - I really cannot imagine going back up to 10-15 hours a week at Dominos.......sigh.

Re: Started PT today

Thanks Hollywood! I hope your foot is feeling better soon too - and that you can find some ice soon The pain is gone today but my ankle/foot is very stiff again. Trying to stay off of it for the next few days as my PT told me to on Thursday. Kinda bummed as I wanted to take my dog, Harmony, to the beach tomorrow morning - but I'm thinking that may not be such a good idea......

Re: Started PT today

Yay for the pain being gone but yuck to the stiffness. Same here except pain and swelling present along with the stiffness from tripping on it last night. I wanted to be able to dance with our kids on stage for their parents like I do every year, but I couldn't this year. So hard when I know it will be another whole year before I see them again! . I almost took pain meds and did it anyway, but they make me sleepy and I wanted to be able to talk to the parents in Spanish and there are twisting and jumping moves that I can NOT do right now even with pain meds and I didnt want to get up there and half do the dance in front of the parents when the kids would be watching me for direction! So hard since I usually direct it or perform with them! Sigh.

Re: Started PT today

Awww, sorry you couldn't dance with the kids..... I'm sure they had a blast with you inspite of it all I hope your swelling and pain goes down soon. It's miserable to be in pain, especially when you aren't at home.
