Torn ATFL & AITFL - Questions to Ask Surgeon

Hi all,

In January 2012 I obtained a grade 3 sprain on my left ankle. Further MRI's and X-Rays confirmed that there was tearing of my ATFL and AITFL as well as talus body damage. 8 months of physiotheray and gradual return to running on a treadmill has caused furtehr damage and pain, to the point where running is now impossible because of high ankle pain as it walking far distances/walking on sand or uneven surfaces.

I am seeing an ankle specialist as my physio has suggested that surgery is now essential as the risk of developing syndesmosis and arthirtis in the future is increased.

I want to make sure that I ask the surgeon the right questions as I'm a keen runner and I competed on a monthly basis. I want to get back to full running fitness and don't think that this is possible without surgery.

Could anyone give me a "list" of things to cover with the surgeon, things I need to know about/ask etc. I woudl really appreciate it.

Many thanks,

Jen
