Re: Hereditary Flexible Flat Feet
I am new to this site and looking for help.
I have hereditary flexible flat feet and have developed hammertoes. I've shown signs of flat feet since I started pushing up as a baby. I am now 24 and have suffered from severe foot, ankle, knee, and lower back pain for the majority of my life. I finally found a doctor who would refer me to a Podiatric Surgeon who I went to see today.
He suggested Achilles Tendon Lengthening Surgery and fusion of the inner ankle joint as my primary treatment option. We agreed to first try custom made orthodic inserts as I have never received any form of treatment for my feet.
He believes surgery will still be necessary.
Has anyone had this surgery done? Are the orthodic inserts worth getting? Does anyone have any input or advice for my situation? ANY help would be greatly appreciated.
I had very, very flat feet with bunions and hammer toes and years ago, an ortho man operated on them. Recently, within a year or more, a hammer toe was coming back and my bunions were getting larger. Found a man who specializes in body mechanics and he has worked on me so that I now have a nice arch and the bunions are much, much smaller and the hammer toe that was forming is almost as it should be. He majored in Kinisiology. I would try to avoid surgery, if you can find someone like this.
