So I will be having bunion surgery, along with fixing my hammer toe and the podiatrist is also going to smooth out my bone spurs on my midfoot in January. Is there anyone on this board that has had a good outcome from having their bunions removed as it seems like all I see is people that wish they wouldn't have had it done. I'm looking for some reassurance, can anyone help me out?
The only thing I can say is, do not have a Podiatrist do your surgery. It is so important that you have a "foot and ankle reconstruction specialist" do it! Even if it is a bunion only. My mother did the same mistake twice and her feet are so messed up and painful. I had a specialist from a major teaching hospital do my foot reconstruction and bunion removal. You will be glad you did!
I agree with Jodi.....If your podiatrist is certified in foot/ankle reconstruction. I.E. My surgeon is a podiatrist but he is board certified in foot/ankle reconstruction with special focus in hind/rear foot reconstructions. There are two other doctors in his office. One is his dad who is solely a podiatrist and one other guy who is board certified in foot/ankle reconstruction. Both of the board certified surgeons are doing my surgery together. They tag team on the more complicated surgeries.
