Re: Animal and LadyKanner's Surgeries

Hi all
Ok I am home, and I must say I am shocked at how good I am feeling.
Had the surgery on Thursday all went well, but the nerve blocks did not work, so when I was in recovery I was in full pain, they tried 3 different drugs each time giving it 10 mins but nothing touched it, finally put on morphine pump! Al last relief!
Next day in afternoon they wanted to get me off the pump so, changed me to the oral morphine, so that PT could teach me how to use crutches, passed this and just chilled in hospital, third day PT came back taught me how to do stairs, passed this, asked if I could go home, nurse said once they had the pain under control (code for not on morphine anymore) so determined to get home, I did not take morphine regardless of pain, lol they gave me 2 paracetamols, 2 ibuprofen and 2 tramodol, this seemed to hold it back enough, after 3 rd night in, asked about going home and yes! Also got injections to prevent blood clotting, had to do this on myself to prove I could do it, lol.
I'm going to be honest now, I was in nowhere near the pain I thought I would be? It could all still be on its way, I don't know, but I feel strong, alert, the pain I would put to the same as having a long day on foot before surgery.
I am due to go back in two weeks to have full cast put on, and then 4 weeks after that a boot.
I hope this inspires someone to go ahead without doubts, because I would do it again tomorrow, it went so well.

Re: Animal and LadyKanner's Surgeries

That's good, I'm glad your pain isn't bad. Whenever I've had surgery mine has been awful. I think everyone feels pain differently. But so happy that it went well and your feeling good. Keep us posted

Re: Animal and LadyKanner's Surgeries

Animal, so glad that your surgery is over ad your on the road to recovery. Good to hear your pain is manageable. I found after the first few days, for me, pain was manageable when I stayed ahead of pain.
Stay well, and take it easy,,,don't try to do too much!

Ladykanner, best wishes on your upcoming surgery. Look forward to hearing that it's over and that you're home, resting comfortably. Take care!
