Calcaneal cuboid fusion

I am 35 and thirteen years ago had an Evans calcaneal osteotomy and posterior tibial tendon transfer to correct a very flat foot. I have not experienced any problems with the surgery until three months ago. I have a large bone spur on the top of my foot over the cc joint and a very significant amount of arthritis in the joint according to my MRI. Within days of the pain starting I was only able to put a small amount of weight through the leg and the leg grew very weak. Also, I have devolved many knee problems from the way I am walking on it. I had two steroid injections into the joint which helped some but are already wearing off. I also wear an ankle brace and have been in PT the last two months. The dr says the only other thing to do is a fusion of the joint but this makes me nervous that other problems will arise in the future. Also, for the past three years I have had moderate to severe back pain which has limited my mobility and am worried how the fusion might affect that pain. Can anyone tell me their experience with this surgery? Currently I am only able to stand for about a minute at a time because the pain is so severe.

Re: Calcaneal cuboid fusion

Hi there, looking for some clarifications: was your PTT transferred to/though your cuboid bone? I didn't realize they do that for flat foot reconstructions -- I had the same procedure for my overly high arch. Plus, my surgeon moved my peroneal longus to brevis. Now my toes are curling down because there is insufficient counter-balancing force and I need 4 toes fusions, schedule 9/11.

I am very sorry about your situation -- the idea of second surgeries is extremely hard to accept -- speaking from my own personal experiences. Pls let me know how things go for you.
